Young Adults: Living and Learning in Recessional Times

This event explored how young people's aspirations and realities for living and learning in the UK are responding to societal changes, not least increased economic insecurity, housing and welfare changes. The importance of gender and ethnicity in these relationships were also discussed.

The event showcased key findings from an ESRC project on Young Adults' Transitions led by Prof. Ann Berrington (University of Southampton) and Dr Steven Roberts (University of Kent). In addition there were contributions from Prof. Andy Furlong (University of Glasgow) and Ben Corr (Greater London Authority). The policy implications of the findings were discussed by an invited panel of youth and housing experts from the third sector, local and national Government including Vidhya Alakeson (Resolution Foundation) and Julie Jefferies (Office for National Statistics).
