  • 8th International Conference on Population Geographies

30 June - 3 July 2015 - CPC members Professor Allan Findlay and Dr David McCollum presented papers at this international conference at The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.

The International Conference on Population Geographies (ICPG) is one of the foremost international gatherings of population geographers and spatial demographers. It has been held at two-year intervals since the first meeting at the University of St Andrews in 2001. Subsequent conferences were held in Sweden, the USA, Hong Kong, England and the Netherlands. This is the first occasion the Conference has been hosted in the southern hemisphere.

The Conference provides a unique opportunity for population scholars to engage with colleagues from around the world, share their research, explore innovative ideas and new developments, and contribute to the discipline. The meeting has a particular focus on the spatial dimension of population processes, dynamics and impacts. Reflecting this focus, the 2015 Conference theme was: The Spatial Dimensions of Population.

Submissions were invited on a range of topics including the dynamics and spatial patterns of population change, fertility, mortality, internal and international migration, families and households, demographic forecasting and population policy.

Professor Findlay presented a paper entitled 'Fees, flows and fantasies: cross-border student migration flows between Scotland and England' and Dr McCollum presented the paper 'Residential mobility and the lifecourse: evidence of de-standardisation?'
