  • CPC contributes to International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences

CPC member, Brienna Perelli-Harris has published an article in the International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences.

The article, entitled 'Partnership Formation and Dissolution in Western Societies' provides an overview of marriage, cohabitation and divorce trends in Europe and the United States.

Partnership formation and dissolution in Western countries has changed dramatically over the last decades. Marriage has declined while cohabitation and childbearing in cohabitation has increased. Union dissolution, living apart together, and repartnering have become common. Despite the nearly universal increase in these behaviors, patterns of union formation continue to differ across Europe and the United States. The article describes the comparisons and consequences of these behaviors and outlines the main explanations for developments in union formation, suggesting historical, cultural and legal factors that may account for country differences.

The second edition of the International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences was published in April 2015. As in the first edition, articles have been written by top international researchers, professors and scholars to better describe current research trends and provide new ways to understand subjects in the social and behavioural sciences.
