Professor Traute Meyer to speak at the Green Party's National Conference for justice in pension policies in Berlin on 14 October 2016

Professor Traute Meyer will be part of a panel of distinguished speakers debating 'What's in the pension system. Basic pension form taxes on retirement pension by allocation?' at 11.30am on Friday 14 October 2016 in the German Bundestag, Berlin.

'The PAYG pension system has become stable after the last financial crisis. At the same time the pension is no longer enough for people to live and they must apply for basic security. In Germany there is still no minimum pension, or even a universal health insurance as there is in other countries. What challenges the pension system in Germany? What can we learn from studies in other countries for a reliable scheme to avoid poverty in old age? Do we need a system change towards a tax-financed basic pension or are the reforms within the existing PAYG pension possible and necessary? And how do the experts evaluate the concept of green guarantee pension? We discuss with Prof. Dr. Traute Meyer (Southampton University), Prof. Dr. Stefan Sell (University Koblenz), Markus Kurth MP, Chair: Wolfgang Kuhn Strengemann-MP.'

The debate forms part of the National Conference for justice in pension policies of the Green Party.

Professor Meyer's research interests and previous CPC research project 'The reconstruction of British and German pension regimes' position her well to debate the challenges of the current pension system and provide evidence to influence positive changes to future pension policy.
