  • CPC contributes evidence on ageing to Local Government Association

In March 2015, CPC and Centre for Research on Ageing (CRA) members prepared an evidence review on 'Local Government and the Demography of Ageing' for the Local Government Association (LGA).

Drawing on a range of CPC and CRA research, the review focuses on the main opportunities and challenges posed by population ageing for policymakers at the local level. It proceeds to suggest ways in which such opportunities and challenges might be addressed by local government.

Prepared by Professor Maria Evandrou, Professor Jane Falkingham, Dr Madelin Gomez Leon, Dr James Robards and Dr Athina Vlachantoni, the review forms part of the 'Need to Know' series, which consists of summaries of research-derived knowledge and evidence on topics identified as priorities by local government.

The review will inform a focused piece of work to address how local councils can take a pro-active approach to demographic change, going forward. Due to be published in June 2015, the final report will set out a series of clear policy proposals, in order to advise the future work and campaigns of the LGA, and for consideration by an incoming government.
