  • CPC researcher appointed to the Migration Advisory Committee

    Professor Jackline Wahba has been appointed as a Non-Executive Board Member of the Home Office's Migration Advisory Committee (MAC). The appointment was made by the Home Office in compliance with the rules set out by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments and run from December 2012 for three years.

    Chaired by Professor David Metcalf CBE, the MAC advises the government on migration issues. It is a non-statutory, non-time-limited, non-departmental public body, sponsored by the UK Border Agency of the Home Office. The Committee is made up of the chair and four other independent economists. Additionally, the Commission for Employment and Skills and the UK Border Agency are represented on the committee.

    "This is a fantastic achievement and we would like to offer our sincere congratulations to Jackie ," says Professor Jane Falkingham, Head of Academic Unit of Social Sciences and Director of CPC. "I am sure she will enjoy her time serving on the Committee, and we look forward to supporting her contribution to its vital work."

    Professor Wahba joins Dr Martin Ruhs, Senior Economist and Director of the Migration Observatory at the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS) at Oxford University; Professor Jonathan Wadsworth, Economics Department at Royal Holloway College, University of London; and Dr Jennifer Smith, Economics Department at the University of Warwick.
