  • CPC Director is elected President of European Association for Population Studies

CPC Director, Professor Jane Falkingham, was announced as President of the European Association for Population Studies (EAPS) following recent Council elections.

CPC member, Professor Hill Kulu, was also elected as Secretary-General and Treasurer. Other members of the new Council are Professor Helga de Valk, Vice-President (President elect), Dr Sven Drefahl, and Dr Tomas Sobotka. The new Council took office during the General Assembly of EAPS on Thursday 7 June 2018.

Professor Falkingham said: “As Vice-President of the Council for the last two years, I am very much looking forward to taking up the role of EAPS President. It is vital that our research links with Europe remain strong during the upheaval likely to be caused by Brexit, and I am proud to be able to represent UK demography in this way.

I look forward to continuing work with my CPC colleague, Hill Kulu, as well as the other council members, and am positive we can continue the important work of EAPS in the coming years.”

Founded in 1983, EAPS is a non-profit, scientific, professional organisation which promotes research on population issues. As a scientific association of individual members and Affiliated Institutions, EAPS is a leading international and interdisciplinary forum for population studies with a special focus on Europe.

EAPS organizes the European Population Conference (EPC) which takes place every two years, and is involved in several collaborative initiatives such as: Population Europe: the European Population Partnership; European Journal of Population; and the European Doctoral School of Demography (EDSD).
