This Project is part of the following research programme/s:

    Covid-19

    Overview

Loss of sleep is known to have a detrimental impact on an individual's physical and mental health. Using data from the Understanding Society Covid-19 study collected in April 2020, and comparing it with data from 2018/19, this project looks at who has been suffering loss of sleep during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The research investigates differences by gender, ethnicity and occupation, including keyworker status.

The study finds increasing disparities and worsening sleep loss for women, people of BAME heritage and those employed in Health and Social Care. The work points to a need for policy and healthcare professionals to take action to support the health and well-being of those groups vulnerable to sleep deprivation.
